Happy Monday afternoon everyone. I hope your Monday has been a good one. We are still camping at the New River State Park. What a beautiful day this Monday has been. There have been few clouds floating by from time to time, lots of clear blue skies, and a nice breeze. Over on Cousin Sharon's Postcards blog, it seems as if the rain, humidity, mosquitoes, floods, sink holes, etc., just won't stop.
Our day started with a good breakfast of a cheese omelet, bacon, and biscuits. After the normal morning camp routine and taking Jackson for a long walk, we were off.
First we drove to the New River access here at the State Park. With all the rains we've had in this end of the state, the New River was has high as we've ever seen.
Normally, a few feet beyond that bench there are steps which lead down to a little sandy beach. Plus this time of year, the New River is usually very clear.
Then we were off to West Jefferson to the Super Dollar Store for Trisha, Lowes for Rob, and Mountain Outfitters for a couple of stickers.
After all the shopping, we stopped at Smokey Mountain BBQ for some to-go plates. Our destination was the Blue Ridge Parkway for a picnic lunch. Oh the BBQ smelled so good as we were driving along. Our plan was to stop at the picnic area in Doughton Park on the Parkway, but it was closed for the season for some reason.
Here you can see Trisha and Jackson getting ready to enjoy our picnic lunches. Well Trisha more than Jackson!!
They sure were yummy!!!
After eating and cleaning up, we were off back to our campsite to just enjoy a lazy mountain day. We are sure glad to see a full day of sunshine so far, and hope we have at least one more nice day to enjoy our trip.
Be sure to check back tomorrow to hear about our adventures.
Looks and sounds like you've had a terrific day! We love that BBQ place too! Enjoy your evening up there in the High Country.
