Home Again, Home Again, Jiggity, Jig..........

Yes, you guessed it, we're back home this evening.   We pulled out of our campsite a few minutes after nine this morning.  Then we rode around the other loop to tell as many of the gang who were out and about good-bye, etc.

Not long after getting out of Charleston we hit rain.  Further up the road we hit even more rain.  Soon Rob was beginning to have thoughts of Truck deploying flotation devices like below......

But as it was we just pushed onward, and eventually got home around 2:30 this afternoon.  Traffic wasn't too bad, although there were a lot of people traveling today.

We had an awesome trip, and plan on returning to JICP sometime in the future.

And since Rob only took 350+ pictures this trip, here are a few more for you to see.....

Thanks for checking by today.  We hope this rain moves on out tonight as forecast, so both pod and Truck can get a much needed bath tomorrow.  Also, pod had a package waiting for our return, so you'll have drop back by to see what it is.

Until next time, stay safe out there.....-R,T and back home with J!

Our Last Day........

Well today was our last day here at James Island.  We are pulling out about 9:00 in the morning.  We did manage a few minor adventures today.

We started at The Lost Dog Cafe for a late breakfast.  There were 8 of us, so we had a bit of a wait, but the food was good.

After breakfast, we walked with Sharon and Becky down to the Folly Beach Pier.  It was a nice morning for a walk and a little shopping.  All we bought was a Folly Beach sticker for pod's collection.  Here are few of the sights we saw....

Then it was a quick stop for gas,  then "The Pig"  (Piggly Wiggly)  for the fixings for crock pot mac and cheese for a covered dish supper at the campground, and back to camp.  We actually broke camp today, due to rain moving in tonight for Thursday.  As we sit here this evening, we are all packed and hitched-up. All we have to do it break the utility connections and bring in the slide.  Then we hit the road back home.  Here you can see a picture of us taken about dark, all ready to hit the road in the morning.

Check back in tomorrow to hear more about our time here.  Until next time, stay safe out there.....-R,T, but no J.

A River Cruise and More......

Welcome back on this most wonderful Tuesday at James Island.  Unlike yesterday, we did have a plan for today and it was great.  We were away from the campground by 8:15 this morning, and at Fort Sumter National Monument by 8:45.

There we bought tickets and boarded the boat for the 35 minute ride out to Fort Sumter.  There is so much history surrounding this former military installation, there is no way we can even begin to tell you all about it on our blog.  Needless to say, we both enjoyed this tour very much.

While waiting to board our tour boat, we did visit the exhibit at the boat dock.  Here we saw the 20ft by 30ft garrison flag which flew over Fort Sumter and a bale of cotton on a cotton scale.  Cotton was one of the cash crops of the Southern United States in the years prior to the Civil War.

In the next few pictures you can get an idea of the sights, the battle, and weather damage inflicted to Fort Sumter over the decades.

Here's the remains of the smaller storm flag which flew over Fort Sumter when Federal forces surrendered to Confederate forces in the opening days of the Civil War.  The Union commanding officer was allowed to take the flag with him as a condition of the fort's surrender.

Here's a interesting picture of the flags flying over Fort Sumter today.

After returning from our cruise, we walked downtown to the Charleston City Market. Here are a few of the sights we saw on our walk.

There we had a fabulous lunch at The Noisy Oyster, followed by a stroll from one end of the other through the market.

After leaving the market, we saw a "Life is Good" store, where we stopped and both bought a t-shirt.

Then a great Pedi-cab ride back to the parking garage (THANKS Conrad!) and it was back to the campground for a nice leisurely afternoon.

Finally, here's a picture of the "Official Tourist" picture we bought from our cruise.

Thanks for checking by today.  We have a few small adventures planned for tomorrow.  Until next time, stay safe out there.....-R,T, but no J.

A Trip Back In Time......

When we got in Truck this morning, Rob turned on the GPS and it immediately wanted to know....

Where To?  Good question!  We decided to drive over to Sullivan's Island and visit Fort Moultrie.  A coastal defense installation, which saw action in the Revolutionary, Civil, and both World Wars. And like most of these fortifications, was rendered obsolete with the invention of the atomic bomb.

Fort Moultrie was built, rebuilt, enlarged,  bombarded, bypassed, besieged, modernized, and even a small portion air conditioned and made resistant to gas attack in its long history.

We walked all over the Fort and Rob took a ton of pictures.  Here are just a few of his favorites.....

Then it was back to James Island for lunch at Jack's Cosmic Dogs...

A quick stop by Wal-Mart, then back to the campground to hang out until we met Trisha's family for supper at Charleston Crab House.  The food was great, the visit with family even better.  I was awesome to see everyone!

We're off to bed early this evening, because of an early start in the morning.  I'm not going to tell you what we are doing.  You'll just have to check back tomorrow and see!

Until next time, stay safe out there.....-R,T, but no J.
