Good Thursday morning everyone. The gang is back camping for the last few days of Spring Break 2017. Our original plans were to be at the beach this week, but a few months back, we changed them to join friends, other podders, and even ex-podders for a little rally known far and wide as Tink's Spring Fling.
We're gathering at the KOA on the "Peaceful side of the Smokies" here in Townsend, TN. Yesterday was a travel day for us. We encountered rain, drizzle, gloom, drove through clouds, and by the time we arrived here, it was sunny and nearly hot!
We had an uneventful drive, making two comfort stops, one fuel stop (not really necessary, but Rob just wanted to be safe) and even a stop for lunch. You can see our lunch stop below......
We were traveling on US 441 also known as Newfound Gap Road. Rob had pulled over to use my bathroom and Trisha ordered cheese crackers for lunch. So Rob grabbed a tub of Palmeto Pimento Cheese and a sleeve of Ritz Crackers from Pod, and as we traveled along up and over the mountain, lunch was Pimento cheese and Ritz crackers.
We arrived here about 1:30 in the afternoon, got checked in, and proceeded to set up camp. We have a very nice campsite. In fact, there seems to have been lots of improvements made to this KOA since we last camped here several years ago. Here are a couple pictures of our set-up......
You'll notice we didn't set up the dome, but set up the quick awning and The Clam for the few days we'll be here. It just so happens that Rob is sitting out in the Clam this morning, listening to a gentle rain shower (that is supposed to move on by in the next hour or so).
Food is always important on any camping trip, and last evening for supper, those of us here gathered at Tink's place for french dip sandwiches, chips, and homemade brownies. It was all yummy, but we forgot to take any pictures. The plan for breakfast this morning includes waffles, bacon, sausage maybe, and who knows what else.
One last picture for this morning. A short part of our drive yesterday took us along the Blue Ridge Parkway. The views weren't so grand, but we did have that section of the BRP pretty much all to ourselves. Rob stopped at an overlook to take this picture, and I think it's going to be one of his favorites.....
Well we're going to sign off for now. Everyone have a great Thursday, check back in the morning to see how this day unfolds, and as always......
Until next time, stay safe out there......-R,T, & J.
